U.S. POSTAL SERVICE
Losses contradict 'self-supporting'
Regarding the June 29 letter, about postal service. The writer states "The U.S. Postal Service is totally self-supporting."
The writer seems to be lacking a few facts.
1) Estimated losses for the USPS were $2.8 billion.
2) Reported second quarter losses YTD are $1.9 billion.
3) The Postmaster General even states that the postal service is going broke.
I wonder if the letter writer is a little biased, seeing that he works for the postal service.
But not to worry, we the taxpayers are there to bail out the USPS. Too bad they can't compete with the private industry (U.P.S., Fed Ex., etc.).
