M-P wins in its third straight OT contest

EVERETT – It may be early in the season but the Marysville-Pilchuck basketball team has been putting in some extra work.

The Tomahawks played their third straight overtime game Tuesday night, squeaking out a 69-66 victory over Cascade in a Wesco North game.

“All four of our games have been very, very tightly contested games. We played three close non-conference games and I think it’s been a great experience for our team,” said Marysville-Pilchuck coach Mike Lowery.

Guard Jared Stohl scored 29 points, raising his season average to a team-high 22.8 points per game.

It was Stohl’s poise at the free-throw line that made the difference in the game.

“He’s an excellent shooter for us. His poise as a sophomore is amazing,” Lowery said of Stohl.

The sophomore made four free throws and the Tomahawks shot 8-for-8 from the stripe in the extra period.

After losing their season-opener to Bellingham, the Tomahawks have played three straight overtime games.

The Tomahawks’ (1-0 in league, 2-2 overall) two wins have been by a combined total of four points.

Cascade overcame a 14-point halftime deficit, switching to a 2-3 zone to start the second half.

“I was impressed by Cascade. They really took it to us in the second half,” said Lowery.

Sean Carter scored 14 of his 15 points in the second half for the Bruins (0-1, 0-2).

Lake Stevens 53, Arlington 52: Josh Rojas’ last second lay-up sealed the Wesco North win for the Vikings. Off a missed free throw, Rojas received a pass that allowed him to score the winning shot. Jeremy Roe led the Vikings with 19 points. Adam Petereit had 14 points for Arlington.
