Mount Vernon edges Stanwood, 70-69

STANWOOD – The Mount Vernon Bulldogs pulled out a big Western Conference North Division victory 70-69 over host Stanwood Tuesday night at Stanwood High School.

On the game’s final possession, Evan Jordan of Mount Vernon blocked a Stanwood shot as time expired.

“This was a nip and tuck game, we fought back all game long and made our free throws down the stretch” (5-for-6) Mount Vernon coach Torey Swanson said.

Midway through the second quarter, Stanwood built a 32-14 lead, but were outscored 56-37 the rest of the game.

Mount Vernon (3-2 division, 3-4 overall) was led by Jeremy Juarez with a game-high 22 points and got 21 points and 14 rebounds from Mike Knight.

Derek Anderson led Stanwood (2-2, 3-3) with 19 points.
