MILL CREEK – The Edmonds-Woodway boys basketball team withstood a 17-point comeback from Jackson and defeated the Timberwolves 57-55 on a buzzer-beating basket Saturday at Jackson High School.
With the win, Edmonds-Woodway (8-1 in division, 11-2 overall) moved into a tie for first place in the Wesco South with Jackson.
The Timberwolves (8-1, 10-3), who trailed the entire game and were behind by as many as 17 points with six minutes remaining in the game, made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring Edmonds-Woodway 27-15.
“We had a courageous comeback,” Jackson head coach Steve Johnson said.
Jackson’s Chris Reimer hit a 3-pointer that tied the score at 55-55 with less than a minute to play. The Warriors then went down the floor and missed a shot but got the offensive rebound.
James Conti made the most of the Warriors’ second chance with the game-winner.
“(We got) terribly out-rebounded,” Johnson said. Jackson was out-rebounded 31-16.
The Warriors got out to an early lead thanks to Casey Hamlett, who scored 10 of his team-high 20 points in an 18-9 first quarter that favored E-W.
Hamlett continued to roll, accounting for seven of the Warriors’ nine points in the second quarter.
Jackson played without three starters who were suspended. Reimer hit five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points for Jackson.
