    Panthers open with two runaway wins

    MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -- The Snohomish Panthers wrestling team shook off the rust and opened the season with a 71-9 non-league rout Friday night at Mountlake Terrace High School.

    THe Panthers (2-0 overall) used seven forfeits, four pins and a technical fall to claim victory in 12 of the 14 matches.

    Conner Strong used a come-from-behind, third-round pin at 125 pounds to take a victory. Strong was trailing 6-4 at the time of the pin. Stefan St. Marie (145), John Garcia (152) and Richard Reed (171) had the other three pins for the Panthers.

    The Hawks' defending 171-pound state champion Casey Finnicum stepped up a weight class to 189 to wreak havoc on his opponents. Finnicum had two pins on the night including a 2-minute, 37-second pin over Snohomish's John Kopet and a 1:13-pin over his Marysville-Pilchuck opponent.

    Mountlake Terrace's Eric Quiteiro had a come-from-behind decision over the Panthers' Joey Hise at 112 pounds. Hise led after the first two rounds, 6-4, before Quiteiro scored on two takedowns to capture three points for the Hawks (0-2).
