Wrestling

BLAINE -- Everett placed eighth out of 23 schools in the Battle at the Border wrestling tournament.

Everett's Jake Anstett placed first in the 285-pound division, winning the championship match with an 8-4 decision.

Anstett did not wrestle Mount Vernon's Dan Osburn, who is ranked number two in state in the 285-pound division. Osburn was upset in the semifinal round.

112--Forrest (E) 4th place, Bearer (E) 6th. 171--Boyze (E) 5th. 189--Carson (E) 3rd. 285--Anstett (E) 1st.



Spud Walley Tournament: At Sedro-Woolley, the Monroe boy's wrestling team placed 13th in the tourney.

Monroe was led by Jacob Murray, who defeated Mariner's Daniel Link 7-2 to take the 152-pound weight championship.

"We did great for a young team," Monroe head coach Jeff Boyle said. "Jake (Murray) really flashed something all through the tourney, and dominated in the final match. Ivan Stoker got a lot of pins for us at the 140 weight."

Stoker placed fifth for Monroe.

At Sedro-Woolley

Cascade: At Blaine, at the Battle of the Border, Cascade placed two wrestlers: Andy Duncan placed 3rd in the 135 weight division, and Lex Duncan placed 5th in the 130.

Lake Washington Tournament: At Kirkland, Mountlake Terrace's Casey Finnicum (189 lbs) and Lynnwood's Tanner Detschman (160 lbs) won their weight classes at the 32nd annual tournament. Stephen Takashima placed second for the Royals while Eric Quinteiro and Jace Holmlund placed third for the Hawks in their weight division.



Sultan at Skyline Tournament: At Sammamish, Zack Baird and Mikey Varnell went undefeated as the Turks won two matches and lost three at the six team round-robin meet.

Girls wrestling

Franklin Pierce Tournament: At Tacoma, Jackson's Dani Shaffer and Tara Miller placed first in their respective weight classes at the individual round robin meet.

At 103 pounds, Shaffer won all three matches by pins to earn first place. Miller matched her teammate by pinning all three of her opponents at 119. Jackson's Andrea Shore finished second in the 145-pound class.
