With the New Year behind us — and some signs pointing to an impressive debut for the year’s first disc — let’s take a quick glance at other albums coming out in 2008.

This list, whittled down from a more extensive one at Stereogum.com, features CDs I either eagerly await (Nada Surf’s “Lucky”), think might be of general interest (Ashlee Simpson’s “Bittersweet World”) or enjoy the album title (the Kooks’ “Konk”).

So here’s what is supposedly coming out in 2008 (keep in mind, the farther out we get, the more possible a release date could change, which is also why there are fewer discs listed from May onward):

In January, Cat Power’s “Jukebox,” Drive-By Truckers’ “Brighter Than Creation’s Dark,” Magnetic Fields’ “Distortion,” the Mars Volta’s “The Bedlam In Goliath,” Ringo Starr’s “Liverpool 8,” Vampire Weekend’s self-titled debut, and Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie fame’s solo album, “Field Manual.”

In February, Sheryl Crow’s “Detours,” Del The Funky Homosapien’s “Eleventh Hour,” Janet Jackson’s “Discipline,” Lenny Kravitz’s “It Is Time For A Love Revolution,” Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III,” Mountain Goats’ “Heretic Pride,” Nada Surf’s “Lucky,” and The Raveonettes’ “Lust Lust Lust.”

In March, 50 Cent’s “Before I Self Destruct,” Bryan Adams’ “11,” the B-52’s “Funplex,” the Black Crowes’ “Warpaint,” Counting Crows’ “Saturday Nights, Sunday Mornings,” Destroyer’s “Trouble In Dreams,” Stephen Malkmus &The Jicks “Real Emotional Trash,” Moby’s “Last Night,” Panic! At The Disco’s “You Don’t Have To Worry…,” Ashlee Simpson’s “Bittersweet World.”

In April, Billy Bragg’s “Mr. Love &Justice,” the Breeders’ “Mountain Battles,” the Kooks “Konk,” Colin Meloy’s “Skulls, Ship, Sheep,” Alanis Morissette’s “Flavors Of Entanglement,” Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds “Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!,” the Roots “Rising Down,” an untitled disc from Portishead, R.E.M.’s “Accelerate,” and Supergrass’ “Diamond Hoo Ha Men.”

In May, untitled discs from Death Cab for Cutie, Ladytron and the M’s.

In June, Dr. Dre’s “Detox,” and untitled discs from the Fray and Joan of Arc.

In September, an untitled disc from Ace of Base.

In October, of Montreal’s “Skeletal Lamping.”

Other big acts are either expected or rumored to be releasing an album this year. Those include:

AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Alkaline Trio, the Avalanches, Beyoncé, Blind Melon, Blur, Built To Spill, Coldplay, the Cure, the Dandy Warhols, Def Leppard, Doves, Eminem, Fergie, Flight of the Conchords, Franz Ferdinand, Guns N’ Roses, Gnarls Barkley, Green Day, Helmet, Islands, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Mates Of State, Matisyahu, John Mellencamp, Metallica, My Chemical Romance, My Morning Jacket, No Doubt, Oasis, the Offspring, the Raconteurs, Spiritualized, the Streets, the Verve, Weezer, Wolf Parade, and Stevie Wonder.
