New south county business resource on the way

LYNNWOOD -- Entrepreneurs in south Snohomish County will soon be able to go online for answers to their business questions.

A new Web site to be called the Business Resource Center is expected to be active by April. The site is being organized and supported by the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, the city of Lynnwood, the Small Business Development Center of Edmonds Community College, the Snohomish County Economic Development Council and the Workforce Development Council of Snohomish County.

The Lynnwood City Council has been asked to contribute up to $1,600 to pay for the Web site, which will cost between $10,000 and $12,000 to put online, said Jean Hales, president and CEO of the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce. The chamber also received a $10,000 grant from Verizon, she said.

"We're really excited about it," Hales said. "We think it's going to be a great asset to the business community."

The number of new businesses in Lynnwood and other cities in the south end of the county is growing, Hales said. The influx of people of different ethnic backgrounds has fueled the growing number of new businesses, she said.

With the new Web site, entrepreneurs will have somewhere to go to find answers to business questions such as how to get started, how to create a marketing plan, and where to apply for permits and licenses in Snohomish County.

"More and more people are using the Internet to get information, and they're doing it at all different times of the day and night," Hales said. "This way, the door is always open for them to get what they need."
