Edmonds-Woodway earns tough win over Kamiak in boys basketball

EDMONDS — The final score may indicate an 11-point victory for the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors boys basketball team, but that is somewhat deceptive, according to E-W coach Gail Pintler.

“It was close all the way until there were just a few minutes left,” he said of his team’s 49-38 victory over Kamiak on Tuesday. “They were within two or three the whole game.”

E-W led just 22-20 at halftime and 36-32 after three quarters of play.

But the Warriors clamped down on defense and created several turnovers to outscore the Knights 13-6 in the fourth quarter.

“We put a little pressure on them at the end,” Pintler added. “The real key was that we only had nine turnovers. (Kamiak) is a good aggressive team and we felt good about that.”

James Conti led E-W with 17 points, and Sean Laue had 14 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists. Oliver Enquist added six rebounds, four steals, and a blocked shot for the Warriors.

Skylar Stormo scored 15 points and Meka Este-McDonald added nine to lead Kamiak, which fell to 6-7 in Wesco play and 7-9 overall.

With the 49-38 victory, the Warriors (12-2, 15-3 overall) clinched the No. 1 seed to the 4A District 1 tournament, though the Wesco South regular season title is still up in the air.

Meadowdale, at 10-3 in Wesco South play, could still catch Edmonds-Woodway for the regular season title, but E-W would still retain the No. 1 seed because Meadowdale is a 3A school.
