MONROE — A packed church of singers and local folks attended a gospel music workshop in Monroe on Jan. 26. FaithChoices, a fellowship of four churches, sponsored the event.
The workshop, titled This Break Through, was led by Stephen Newby, an internationally recognized teacher and performer, associate professor of music and director of the Gospel Choir at Seattle Pacific University.
The workshop and concert were also done as a coat and blanket fundraiser for Take the Next Step, a Monroe organization that helps at-risk and homeless families in the Sky Valley.
Newby is a worship leader, songwriter, composer and publisher of many different musical styles and traditions. He is the director of the Office of University Ministries and the Center for Worship and also serves as worship leader for Promise Keepers and Integrity Music.
