Zach Hamill takes skates to Boston Bruins' AHL affiliate
Zach Hamill is headed to Providence.
The Everett Silvertips center is joining the Providence Bruins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Boston Bruins, for the remainder of its season. Hamill flew out Monday night.
Hamill, a 19-year-old native of Port Coquitlam, B.C., was selected eighth overall by Boston in the 2007 NHL draft. He signed his professional contract with the Bruins last summer.
Hamill was the first bantam draft pick in Everett history, and he's spent the past four seasons with the Tips. He was the WHL's scoring champion in 2006-07, and he holds the Everett career scoring record with 262 points. This season he tallied 75 points (26 goals, 49 assists) in 67 games.
Playing for Providence doesn't make Hamill ineligible to return to Everett next season as an overager. However, signed players don't typically return to the WHL for their overage seasons.
As of Monday none of Everett's other drafted players -- right wing Dan Gendur, defensemen Dane Crowley and Taylor Ellington, goaltender Leland Irving -- had been called up to finish out the season with a professional team.
