UPDATE: Wild Sky vote Thursday?

Posted at 4:32 pm by Jerry Cornfield

Word this afternoon is that the U.S. Senate could vote on Wild Sky tomorrow.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid scheduled a two-hour debate Thursday on S. 2739. This omnibus legislation is a collection of 62 bills dealing with preserving, protecting and using public lands around the nation.

It includes the one to create the Wild Sky wilderness area introduced by two Washington Democrats, Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Rick Larsen.

Much of the discussion will surround four amendments proposed by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. Once the two hours of debate end, the Senate would likely vote.

No predictions on that given the delay-filled history of Wild Sky.

If the Senate votes on and passes the bill, it will be sent to the House of Representatives for final action. The legislation shouldn't get hung up there because the House did pass something very similar last year.

Then it would go to President Bush for signing.
