A new city budget goal

A new goal has been added to the City Council's top five budgeting priorities: to develop and implement a strategy to address the city's aging public facilities.

Originally adopted in 2006, the council's other goals include protecting and enhancing the city's financial health; generating economic development; reviewing and prioritizing capital infrastructure needs and implement projects; develop and implement more effective communication outreach in the community; and maintain essential public services in a cost-effective manner. The six goals are the foundation of the city's 2009-2010 biennial budget.

Snohomish

City features online development map

The city's Web site features an updated construction and development activity map that shows what is being built in the city. The Web site address is www.ci.snohomish.wa.us.

The map features major commercial and housing projects including Snohomish Station, the city's largest single economic development for years to come on Bickford Avenue. A new Fred Meyer opened in March. Two other anchor tenants at the 400,000-square-foot shopping center will open soon: Kohl's this week and Home Depot in May.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 in the parking lot at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

Data Base, a Kirkland-based information protection company that contracts with the city and state, is donating a mobile truck that pulverizes documents beyond recognition, according to the city.

The city, HomeStreet Bank in Marysville and Data Base are co-sponsoring the event to raise awareness about identity theft.

Document destruction is on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to personal documents only, with a limit of six boxes per person. No drop-offs of documents are permitted. Participants must remain with their boxes until loaded to prevent theft or rummaging.

The plan is expected to be available Tuesday on the city's Web site at www.ci.monroe.wa.us. It's also set to be presented to the City Council, the city's planning commission and the downtown steering committee at 7 p.m. April 22 at City Hall, 806 W. Main St.
