MONROE — Naima Lang went winless in his first three years racing in the super stock division at Evergreen Speedway.

Four races into his fourth season competing in the top-tier division, he has three wins.

“I could get used to this winning thing, real easily,” Lang said with a laugh after the race. “It’s so nice to drive a good car.”

“I like having the luck my way, after three years,” he added.

Gray skies and a brief rain shower right after qualifying caused speedway officials to shuffle the racing program to ensure the super stocks were able to race.

Heat races from the bomber and mini-stock divisions dried the track out enough for the late models to run two heats and a feature.

“I can’t thank Jesse Jensen enough for helping me out and giving me this race car,” Lang said of his crew chief and spotter. “This is like the old bomber days.”

Jensen was also Lang’s crew chief and car builder in 2004, when Lang won the bomber division championship at Evergreen.

Lang took the lead from Fred Hall on a caution restart on lap 14 of the super stock feature and was not challenged the rest of the way.

Hall finished second, Mike Holden was third, Kelly Mann came in fourth and John Zaretzke rounded out the top five.

Lang started the 40-lap feature on the inside of the fifth row, but moved steadily to the front, taking over third place by lap 5.

The only caution of the race came on lap 12 when Zaretzke and Tom Berrow bumped in turn 1, spinning Berrow and ending his night.

Zaretzke was sent to the rear of the lead lap cars — 15 of the 16-car field were on the same lap as the leader at that time — but steadily battled his way back into the top five.

Lang won the season-opening super stock feature race on April 12 and climbed Evergreen’s victory stage again on May 3.

After Saturday’s race, speedway officials announced that Lang’s motor had been removed for technical inspection after his May 3 victory. Results of that inspection were found to be normal and the motor was returned to Lang.

Foti hangs on for wet win: Season points leader Jim Foti took the lead on a restart on lap 20 en route to winning the bomber division feature on Saturday.

Although the race started under dry and calm conditions, the wind and rain picked up throughout the 30-lap bomber main.

Defending champion Lane Sundholm and last season’s runner-up Darrel Lutovsky kept pressuring Foti in the late going, with all three trying to run in the high groove — the preferred line at Evergreen Speedway in wet conditions.

On lap 27 Sundholm and Lutovsky both tried to stay in the high groove heading into turn 1, but they bumped and Lutovsky’s car left the track. Sundholm was black-flagged and sent to the back of the field.

David Stewart Jr. led the early laps, but Lutovsky passed him for the lead on lap 15 when Stewart got loose in the frontstretch.

There were five cautions in the race, including one on lap 28 that set up a green/white-checkered finish.

Weedin wins 2nd straight: 2006 mini-stock division champion Mark Weedin is now two-for-two after winning Saturday’s feature main.

Weedin, who won the season-opener on April 12, passed Kim Lang for the lead on lap 23 then held off hard charges by Kim Lang and defending champion Chuck Richard to take the checkered flag.

“It was very hard,” Weedin said from victory stage after getting his trophy. “That was one of the hardest races I’ve ever driven.”

Lang finished second, Richard was third, 2007 rookie of the year Kris Harriss was fourth and Andrew Schukar was fifth.

Returning to the division after taking several years off, Jon Roberts led the first 15 laps before Kim Lang passed him.

There were no cautions in the 30-lap feature.

Aren Losier won the mini-stock B main.

Defending champion wins stinger eight feature: Defending division champion Mike Middleton passed Sean Peter, whose car had stalled, on the last lap for the stinger eight A main victory Saturday night.

Ben Chandler was second, Michael Durbin finished third, Brian Wheeler was fourth and Nick Dunham rounded out the top five.

James Conley won the stinger eight B main.
