Mid-week notes

In no particular order, here they are:
Mid-season classic?The NASCAR All Star race is this Saturday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
I pulled a bunch of information for the event off the NASCAR media site. You can find it under “national/international racing” or by CLICKING HERE
Be afraid, be very afraid: This weekend marks the return of the 60 Minutes of FEAR to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe.
Saturday’s figure-eight endurance race doesn’t figure into the points battle — all entrants get an equal number — but it is a highlight of the season for both the fans and the racers who compete.
Defending super stock division champion John Zaretzke said he will being taking his chances in the “X”, returning to a style of racing he enjoys quite a bit.
The super stocks, bombers and hornets are also scheduled to race.
The weekend kicks off in Monroe with drag racing on Friday.
Can you help a racer out? As many of you know, Evergreen Speedway mini-stock driver Mindy Harriss and bomber driver Nikki Bristol are taking part in a three-day “Walk for the Cure” to fight breast cancer in September.
Each walker needs to come up with $2,200, and many people graciously donated money, or took donation forms, at the speedway last Saturday.
Harriss said defending mini-stock champion Chuck Richard donated his second-place earnings from the season-opening race on April 12 and Kim Lang, who drives the No. 33 mini-stock, donated her earnings from the May 10 race, another second-place result.
Harriss and Bristol will continue to have donation forms, or to take donations, throughout the racing season at Evergreen Speedway.
Blogging the supers: Joining the rest of us with too much time on our hands, Evergreen Speedway super stock division driver Tom Hughs has started a blog.

Winged sprints head to Wenatchee: The winged sprint cars of the American Speed Association Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association (ASA/NSRA) head to the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval this Saturday, May 17.
This will be the ASA/NSRA’s third race of the season.
The Wenatchee Valley Super Oval is a quarter-mile lightly banked paved race track.
Expected at WVSO are current points leader Justin Mack driving the No. 17 car and in the No. 33j car 2006 ASA/NSRA season champion Jeff Montgomery, who trails Mack by just one point.
Rounding out the top five in the championship battle are Matt Hein in the No. 98h car, Jake Mann in the No. 51 car, and defending champion Andy Alberdine in the No. 76 car.
Turn it Moore: Evergreen super stock driver Daniel Moore has had a rough start to the season.
Moore has been commuting from Eastern Washington University, where he is studying engineering, back to Monroe to race.
That’s a long haul, and it’s made it difficult for the former ARCA West truck series driver to prepare the car he co-owns with his father and mother, Dan and Jan Moore.
In fact before the fourth race of the season last Saturday, Daniel Moore said: “I’ve got the car to turn, finally,” when asked how things were going.
Moore is 10th in the division standings. He’s recorded two ninth-place finishes, an eighth and an 11th so far this season.
