State baseball: Snohomish beats Puyallup 9-3

Derek Jones fueled Snohomish’s 9-3 first-round Class 4A state baseball tournament victory against Puyallup (18-5) today at Everett Memorial Stadium. Jones hit two home runs — a solo shot in the first inning and a two-run blast in the fifth inning. He finished 3-for-3 with four RBI.

Jones also earned the pitching victory, throwing all seven innings and improving his record to 6-2.

Snohomish (20-5) plays again at 4 p.m. against the winner of the Mountlake Terrace vs. Central Kitsap first-round game.
