Wissing, 31, who coached at Sehome the past two years, replaces Jon Rasmussen who resigned after last season to spend more time with his family. "I'm excited to be at Shorecrest," Wissing said. Twelve people applied for the job, Shoreline School District athletic director Don Dalziel said, making it one of the deepest pools he's seen. "It was a very qualified pool of applicants," he said. Wissing led Sehome to two state 2A tournaments and a 36-18 record the past two years. The Mariners went 21-7 and placed fourth in 2007. He has coached for eight years including stints as an assistant at Western Washington University and Juanita High School. Wissing played club basketball in Germany while in high school and also coached in Japan. "I try to fit strategies that complement the players the team has," Wissing said. "I expect a lot from a group of girls and they tend to deliver." Shorecrest has never made it to state but has been on the brink, losing five winner-to-state games in the last eight years. "It's a tough district to qualify from," Wissing said. "You've got to have that as your goal and you've got to do your best to make that happen." Wissing said he plans to meet with the players on Thursday.
