Double Team

Scout.com football player rankings

Posted at 12:49 pm by Mike Cane, Herald Writer

Since school is out and my work schedule is less hectic I finally have a chance to catch up on some things I meant to do months ago.

This includes checking in with some of the area’s most talented Class of 2009 athletes to see what colleges they’re considering.

At the top of my list is senior-to-be Tony Heard, Edmonds-Woodway’s running back/linebacker who was named the 2007-2008 Gatorade Washington Football Player of the Year and The Herald’s 2007 All-Area Offensive Football Player of the Year.

Heard already received an offer from the University of Washington but is still considering his options.

I tried to dig up some scouting news about Heard and I found the 2009 Scout.com Northwest Hot 100 list. Heard is ranked No. 50, the best among local players. Kamiak linebacker Marcel Seely is No. 51.

The other area athletes on the Hot 100 list are Lynnwood DE/RB Geoff Meinken (No. 64) and Mountlake Terrace DB/RB/WR Billy Lechtenberg (No. 99).

According to Scout.com and several other reports, Meinken (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) has verbally committed to Washington State University.
