Couple fight back against armed home invader

MONROE – A Monroe couple used a baseball bat to battle with a man who slipped into their home early this morning.

The suspect, 24, from Monroe, had a gun.

Even so, he wound up in the hospital.

Around 3:30 a.m., the man broke into the couple’s home in the 21600 block of 164th Drive SE. He apparently came in through an unlocked door, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The couple said they woke up and a scuffle followed. They received minor injuries. The suspect was taken to Valley General Hospital before being transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. When he’s released, detectives expect to jail the man for investigation of first-degree robbery, Hover said.
