FYI

Vintage airplanes soar Saturday

A Fly Day is planned at Paul G. Allen's Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field in Everett.

At noon Saturday, two vintage warbirds, a Republic P-47D Thunderbolt and a Polikarpov U-2/PO-2, will fly.

Lt. Ralph Jenkins, a veteran World War II pilot who flew P-47s during the war, will be on hand to meet and greet visitors at 3407 109th St. SW, Everett.

A viewing area is at the west end of 109th Street SW. Limited seating is available, so bring lawn chairs.

Highway 522 work shuts Bothell trail

State transportation crews closed a segment of the North Creek bicycle and pedestrian trail from just north of highway 522 on the University of Washington Bothell campus and Cascadia Community College Campus to the Highway 522 overpass near the junction of the Sammamish River Trail. The monthlong closure is necessary so crews can begin widening the Highway 522 bridges and build a new southern entrance to the college campus.

Detour signs direct bicyclists and pedestrians to 102nd Avenue NE and Beardslee Boulevard in downtown Bothell. There also are detour fliers available at the main trail entrances near the campus.

Trail users should be aware that there will be a total of 90 closure days throughout the project duration.

Mountlake Terrace Library sets parade

The Mountlake Terrace Library invites folks to participate in the Tour de Terrace Parade at 5:30 tonight at 23300 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.

Organizers plan a pre-parade pizza party at which participants can create "buggy" characters and march in the parade at 7 p.m.

For more information, call 425-776-8722.

Gold Bar festival this weekend

The Gold Dust Days Heritage Festival in Gold Bar runs from 3 to 8 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The festival kicks off today with a kids day featuring American Indian flute and harmonica lessons.

The weekend event also features a pageant, gold panning, food, arts and crafts booths, a parade, a car-and-motorcycle show, and a dance at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Clarification

Mark Evan Brown, who is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, is principal at Highland Christian School in Arlington. A subheadline on Page A1 Thursday may have given the impression that Brown is principal at a different school.
