Bailey Jones, a senior at Kamiak, verbally committed to play volleyball for Western Washington University.

Jones, a 6-foot middle blocker, committed in mid-August. Last year she helped Kamiak place fourth at the Class 4A state tournament.

Western Washington has one of the top Division II volleyball programs in the nation. Last season the Vikings reached the national championship match. Jones said yesterday that she plans to sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent with WWU in November.

“The coach (Diane Flick) is amazing and the girls seemed so excited and happy to be there,” said Jones, who toured Western when Kamiak attended a camp there this past summer.

Besides Western’s success in volleyball, Jones said a key factor in her decision was academics. WWU is one of just about 30 schools in the country that offers an industrial design major, Jones’s preferred field of study.

Jones is the latest on an impressive list of Kamiak players to find an opportunity to play in college. Some of the others, all 2008 Kamiak grads, are:

*Kierra Riley, Morgan State University (Division I)
*Julia Church, University of Idaho (Division I)
*Jordan Keller, Seattle University (Division I)
*Devin Larson, Central Washington University (Division II)
*Hannah Harrison, Pacific Lutheran University (Division III)
