Programs and Classes

Catholic radio program "Conversations with Father Bob" features Richard King, the program director for Catholic Community Services University District Youth Center and Maggie Mahrt, the assistant resident director at John Paul the Great Catholic University in San Diego, Calif.

Mahrt spent four years as the youth minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bothell.

Edmonds Christian Church invites the public to a contemplative labyrinth worship service in honor of veterans at 6 p.m. Sunday at 23010 84th Ave. W., Edmonds.

Suzanne Moore, one of the illustrators of the St. John's Bible, is the featured speaker at a Write on Calligraphers meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Art Works, 201 Second Ave. S., Edmonds.

Moore plans to present a slideshow and to talk about the images she created for the St. John's Bible.

The St. John's Bible was created by calligrapher Donald Jackson who approached the Benedictine monks of Saint John's University and Abbey in Collegeville, Minn., with his lifelong dream to create the first handwritten, illuminated Bible commissioned since the invention of the printing press.

Write on Calligraphers is a nonprofit comprised of people who share a love of letters and paper arts.

Bible Baptist Church plays host to a Deaf Ministry Conference with John Clark and his wife Henra Clark, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for a workshop, lunch and social time and from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Sunday for a free continental breakfast, followed by Sunday School and services.

A sign-language class is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday followed by the 6 p.m. evening service.

John Clark, who became deaf at age 3, attended the Mississippi Deaf School and graduated in 1954. He became an evangelist in 1968 and has served as a pastor traveling around the world.

Marysville Free Methodist Church presents a Lead Now program from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 15 at 6715 Grove St., Marysville. The program, which features Erwin McManus, Margaret Feinberg, Francis Chan, Matt Chandler and others, is designed for young adults ages 20 to 30 who want to develop leadership skills.

Marysville Church of the Nazarene presents GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at 8240 64th St., Marysville.

The seminar is for people facing the holidays after the death of a loved one. It features practical suggestions and reassurance through video interviews with counselors, grief experts and other people who have experienced the holidays after the death of a loved one.

Topics to be discussed include "Why the Holidays Are Tough," "What to Expect" and "Using the Holidays to Help You Heal."

Registration is requested.

Those who attend will receive a book with daily readings providing insights and ideas on holiday survival.

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Maltby plays host to Tesfai Tesema and his wife Abeda at 8, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Nov. 16 at 9225 212th St. SE, Snohomish.

Tesema is a missionary pastor in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod who is originally from Ethiopia. His wife is from Eritrea. The couple founded a congregation in the Sudan in the early 1980s and helped lead another church in San Jose, Calif., from 1989 to 2003. Since 2006, Tesema has worked as the Western United States Coordinator for African Immigrant Ministry for the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
