Round 1 goes to Hope, recount next

Posted at 6:50 am by Jerry Cornfield

After three tries for state office, Republican Mike Hope of Lake Stevens has won an election.

Sort of.

Tuesday, Snohomish County certified vote results from the Nov. 4 election and Hope had beaten Democratic Rep. Liz Loomis of Snohomish by 118 votes.

State law says that's too close to declare him the outright winner. Instead, the law requires a recount, by hand, of all the ballots in their 44th Legislative District race.

That work is under way and results will start to come in Dec. 9.
