Contact Carol MacPherson (cmacpherson@heraldnet.com or 425-339-3472).   Published: Tuesday, December 2, 2008 FIGHTING FORECLOSURE Couple's plight is of their own making Regarding the Bergers' problems with their mortgage (Sunday article, "Fighting foreclosure"), I hope they gave thanks this holiday weekend that they live in a country where people who are responsible and make good decisions will always be willing to step up and bail out those who don't. Are they kidding? They run up a large credit card debt, then refinance to a mortgage with a higher interest rate, then don't read the paperwork, then quit a job, and then ask the taxpayers (oh, excuse me ... the state) to bail them out? And it was all the fault of the mean mortgage company which happened to be the only one they tried to do business with. How long can those of us who don't spend more than we make afford this insanity? Gary Lang Everett
