Longtime Terrace coach Blevins dies
Merle Blevins, who coached the Mountlake Terrace boys basketball team to the 1977 state title, died Thursday at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds. He was 82.
Blevins, who graduated from Edmonds High School and Washington State University, took over the Hawks program in the early 1960s and retired after the state championship season. In later life, he built houses and lived with his wife, Tillie, in Edmonds.
Before teaching at Mountlake Terrace, Blevins was a teacher and coach at Edmonds H.S. He is a member of the Edmonds School District Hall of Fame.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood.
