Everett beats Oak Harbor in boys basketball

OAK HARBOR -- The Everett Seagulls took advantage of the inexperience of Oak Harbor, defeating the Wildcats 60-46 in a Western Conference North division game at Oak Harbor High School Monday night.

Trailing by two entering the final quarter, the Seagulls used a 23-point fourth quarter to put away Oak Harbor.

"In the fourth quarter they pressed us. They wore us down," Oak Harbor head coach Mike Washington said.

Everett guard Michael Murray scored 11 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Seagulls moved to 2-4 in the league and 3-6 overall.

Flynn Mattson, a 6-foot-5 forward, scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and added seven rebounds for the Seagulls.

Oak Harbor was led by Jay Stout (12 points) and Mike Washington Jr. (11).

The Wildcats (0-5, 1-8) have a lot of players that are in their first or second year of varsity play.

Despite being winless in the division, the Wildcats have played tough losing to Snohomish by two and dropping a heartbreaker on Saturday to Monroe.

"We're playing hard. We're making progress," Washington said.
