Karen and Kristi Lund, mother and daughter, say opening their cafe on a 13th may have been unlucky.
It sure seems that way.
They opened Corner Coffee Bar and Cafe on May 13, 2006, at 18401 76th Ave. W. in Edmonds.
Their first winter, they experienced power outages and downed trees in their neighborhood.
In February 2007, they were robbed. Last November, some creep stole their outdoor speakers.
And December snow forced them to close for 11 days.
The cafe is also in the path of Olympic View Drive construction. This spring, customers will have to negotiate sidewalks being built smack in front of the store.
The Lunds say if you can get to them, support your neighborhood cafe.

A sommelier will be asked a more difficult task Saturday in Bothell.
Jody Bossert, co-owner and marketing manager for Elle Marie Hair Studio, says a team from the studio recently traveled to Las Vegas. They are eager to share what they learned at the 2009 Redken Symposium.
They are offering a Sip ‘n Snip from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 17917 Bothell-Everett Highway, Suite 102.
At the event, guests may drop by to receive consultations, check out products and see models with mainstream and extreme hairstyles.
“As if the hottest hairdos weren’t already roaming the streets of Bothell and Mill Creek, now we’re taking things to a whole other level,” Bossert says.
And the sommelier will try to recommend a perfect wine to complement your hairstyle.

Don’t panic if Lake Stevens firefighters show up at your home on Feb. 13.
Nothing is on fire, except perhaps the emotions of a loved one.
The Lake Stevens Fire Department joins Haggen Food and Pharmacy for Hearts on Fire to benefit Northwest Burn Foundation. Flowers ordered at Haggen Food and Pharmacy in Lake Stevens will be delivered by off-duty firefighters, in uniform, and the delivery fees go to the foundation.

Librarians are ready to help students and parents get the most out of the library.
A Homework Help Open House is planned for 7 tonight at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo, to show folks how to find book award lists, find book titles, match reading levels with interests and find literary criticism.
And there’s dessert.
“We figured the time was right after dinner for most people, so dessert seemed like a natural,” said Kathleen Fernandes, teen services librarian.
