The lineman from Issaquah High School is 6 feet, 3 inches and weighs about 300 pounds. Yet this week, Reagan isn't even the biggest guy on his team. That title goes to West Seattle's Quentin Hooks (6-7, 325 pounds). But in terms of having a huge positive impact on his peers, Reagan stands alone. Based on the center's performance during practices, coaches named Reagan a captain for the West team, which will play the East squad at 1 p.m. today in the 2009 East-West All-Star Football Game at Everett Memorial Stadium. Learn more about Reagan, who enjoys studying history, would like to travel to Europe and aspires to be a detective. Coach's corner It didn't take long for Reagan to make a strong impression on West team coaches. "He's really emerging as a leader. He stepped up the first day," West team head coach John Ondriezek said Thursday. Even when he was off the field, Reagan prepared for the East-West Game. He invited other linemen to his hotel room to study plays and he practiced snaps with West quarterbacks Nick Baker and Jacob Allie in the hallway. Off to college Reagan will play football for the College of the Redwoods, a two-year school in northern California. He hopes to attract attention from bigger programs and eventually transfer. Bothell's Patrick Ottorbech, a running back/linebacker on the West All-Star team, will also play on the Redwoods squad, Reagan said. A reliable protector West team quarterback Nick Baker of Lake Stevens High is thrilled to play with Reagan. "I've never had a center that's been super huge, but I really like Dillon," said Baker. "Me and him have had a real center-quarterback bond from Day 1. I like having someone big up there because it's a little bit more comforting." Unforgettable journey What is Reagan's proudest sports accomplishment? He said it was playing in the Class 4A state championship game in December. Reagan's Issaquah team lost 20-15 against undefeated favorite Skyline. "We didn't win," he said, "but it was a great experience." Identified flying object Reagan qualified for the 4A state track and field meet in late May. He placed seventh in the shot put with a top throw of 51 feet, 9.75 inches. His West teammate Andru Pulu, who competed for Federal Way, finished 10th in the event. Seeking the answer History and math are Reagan's favorite school subjects. He prefers learning about things that have definitive solutions. "The answers are there," Reagan said of history and math. "I didn't like English so much because of the interpretation." Going undercover? In college, Reagan plans to major in criminal justice. He would like to be a detective. At his size, it might be difficult sneaking up on a criminal.
