Climber dies in fall near Monte Cristo

MONTE CRISTO -- Search and rescue crews late Sunday headed to the Monte Cristo area to recover the body of a climber killed in a fall.

Rescue crews got called just after 5 p.m., Snohomish County Sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. Another climber, who was the victim's climbing partner, contacted rangers in the area and reported the fatal fall.

Crews were planning to use a helicopter to recover the body. The rugged Monte Cristo area is south of Darrington in the Cascade Range.

No other details were available at press time.
