Philippart stopped Stanwood’s seventh penalty kick after Monroe’s Payton Wangner gave the Bearcats (9-3-2 league and overall) the lead on the previous shot. “Our keeper (Philippart) came up huge,” Monroe head coach Kathleen Potthast said. Potthast said the match was fairly even with both squads trying to loft long passes through the defense with neither team able to muster any offensive momentum. “It was pretty much back and forth,” Potthast said. “We (Monroe) had 13 shots, they had 11. ... Both teams had a couple close ones, but nothing really exciting.” The win moves Monroe into the No. 1 4A Wesco North spot for the 4A District 1 playoffs with two games remaining. Monroe plays undefeated Everett and Marysville-Pilchuck before heading to the district playoffs. Lake Stevens is the No. 2 4A team, just one point behind Monroe. “We’ve had some players out, so it’s nice (to be able to relax after clinching a playoff spot),” Potthast said. Stanwood (6-6-2) goalkeeper Haley Haugstad saved a kick earlier in penalties, but Monroe had the advantage of kicking last. “It’s nerve-wracking, but exciting on the other hand,” Potthast said of the penalty kicks. Arlington 2, Lake Stevens 0: At Lake Stevens, Arlington’s goalkeeper Chelsea Boulton had two epic saves in the first half, according to Arlington head coach Nathan Davis, and totalled 10 saves to help the Eagles (5-10 in leauge, 5-10 overall) post the Wesco North upset over Lake Stevens (9-4-1, 9-4-1). In the 21st minute, Jessica Van Loo scored with an assist by Dana Canaria, and the second goal was scored in the 76th minute by Olivia Woodward with Van Loo on the assist. Lake Stevens’ goalie was Sierra Hobday. Cascade 2, Marysville-Pilchuck 1 (shootout): At Everett, Rachel Detroit scored in the 10th minute on an assist by Danae Weigelt to put Cascade up early in the Wesco North game. Marysville-Pilchuck’s (6-7-1 in league and overall) Danielle Norton (Rachel Hamelin assist) tied the game 25 minutes later, and the game remained tied until the Bruins (4-9-2, 4-9-2) prevailed 2-1 in the shootout. Rachel Leupold (Cascade) and Katie Muller (M-P) were the goalkeepers. Everett 3, Snohomish 1: At Snohomish, Sele Vance scored in the 68th minute (Annie Sittauer assist) of the Wesco North game and the 74th minute (Kylie Beeson) for Everett. Bailey McMullen (Vance) also added a goal for the Seagulls in the 33rd minute. Courtney Johnson scored the Snohomish goal in the 15th minute. Katie Johnson was the goalkeeper for Everett (14-0 league and overall). Melissa Dreves and Ashley Holten split time in goal for Snohomish (7-7-0, 7-7-0) Edmonds-Woodway 2, Lynnwood 0: At Lynnwood, Kristin Lyshall and Lindsey Aranda (Emily Storino assist) each scored a goal to lead Edmonds-Woodway to the Wesco South win. Goalkeeper Justine Ponton recorded her 10th shutout of the season for the Warriors (5-2 league, 9-2 overall) and Natalie Cachopo was the goalkeeper for Lynnwood (1-6, 2-12). Glacier Peak 6, Mariner 0: At Everett, senior Sami Boggs scored two goals to help lead Glacier Peak to the win in the Wesco South contest. Alex Carlson, Sam Long, Louisa Pendergast and Sarah Desautels added goals for the Grizzlies (5-2 league, 10-3-1), which had Bailey Anderson in goal. Mia Ayala stood in goal for Mariner (0-7, 0-14). Meadowdale 6, Mountlake Terrace 1: At Edmonds, Julia Fjortoft scored in the ninth and 22nd minutes, Hannah Landerholm (Fjortoft assist) scored in the 32nd minute, Marcail McDonald (Mackenzie Stapleton) scored in the 56th minute and Maddi Null scored goals in the 69th minute (Erin Wyatt) and the 75th minute for Meadowdale. Erin Russell scored in the 38th minute for Mountlake Terrace. Alisa Sagdahl was the goalkeeper for Meadowdale (6-1-0 league, 9-4-1), as was Takara Mitsui for Mountlake Terrace (2-5-0, 2-11-1). Shorewood 1, Shorecrest 0 (shootout): At Shoreline, Sarah Clements, Lisa Echert, Jackie Lykstad, Hannah Clements and Kelsey Johnson scored goals for Shorewood in the shootout, giving the Thunderbirds (3-4 in league, 6-7-1 overall) the Wesco South rivalry victory. Shorecrest (2-5, 5-7-2) got shootout goals from Agen Heffernan, Rachel Schrote, Jessica Rankin and Ashely Desharnais. Shorewood had Madison Hollenbeck in goal and Shorecrest had Chelsey Doyle in goal. Cedarcrest 4, Coupeville 0: At Duvall, Ashton Griffen scored in the second minute, Clare O’Donnell (Griffen) scored in the 55th minute and Maggie Pleis scored in the 67th and 75th minutes to lead Cedarcrest to the Cascade Conference win. Jordan Cleman was in goal for Cedarcrest (9-4 league, 10-4-1 overall), as was Ashley Manker for Coupeville (2-11, 4-11). Lakewood 9, Sultan 0: At Marysville, Mariah Smith scored a hat trick in a five-minute span, Alisha Stott added two goals and Morgan Rettig, Maddie Chamberlin, Arianna Barrio, and Erin Dierickx each scored goals in Lakewood’s Cascade Conference victory. Judy McColough, Korena Price and Bronte Absalon played in goal for Sultan (0-13 in league, 0-15 overall), and Miranda Head, Kiley Brown and Mariah Smith combined for the shutout for Lakewood (9-4, 11-4). Granite Falls 3, King’s 2 (shootout): At Granite Falls, after tying the score late in the game, Granite Falls outscored King’s 5-4 in a shootout to earn the Cascade Conference win. Alicia Amundson (Sarah Hensley assist) put Granite Falls (8-6 league, 10-6 overall) up first in the 43rd minute, but Hillary Zevenbergen scored in the 60th and 64th minutes to give King’s (9-4, 10-4) a temporary lead. Katie Cashman (Cacia Stevens) scored in the 72nd minute to force the overtime. Kelsey Carlson was the goalkeeper for Granite Falls and Carolyn Dapper and Maddy McDevitt split time in goal for the Knights. Archbishop Murphy 4, South Whidbey 0: At Everett, senior Sam Pettinger scored one goal and assisted goals by Erin Ryan in the third minute and Lindsey Bos in the 21st minute, to help keep Archbishop Murphy undefeated at 13-0 in league, 15-0 overall on senior night. In the 78th minute, Caroline Brawner scored unassisted. Senior Julie Connelly got the shutout for Murphy against South Whidbey (3-10, 4-11).
