Scots hammered by Everett, 36-6

EVERETT

Shorecrest's playoff hopes were dashed Friday night with a 36-6 loss to Everett.

Everett improved to 2-1 in Western Conference 3A play, 4-4 overall, and locked up one of three playoff spots with the victory over the Scots. Shorecrest dropped to 1-2 in league and 3-5 overall.

Turnovers and untimely penalties were the Scots undoing. Two first-half turnovers led to 14 points for Everett. Six penalties in the first half for 40 yards, including three false starts, killed multiple Shorecrest drives.

“We have to find a way to battle back,” said Shorecrest head coach Mike Wollan. “We just can't keep overcoming the mistakes, the penalties, the false starts. The first half we stopped ourselves on every drive with a turnover and false starts.”

Everett held Jordan Brown in check for most of the game, but the senior running back still managed 80 yards on 19 carries. He scored the Scots only touchdown with a 3-yard run in the second quarter.

Shorecrest quarterback Ted Hammond was injured on defense early in the second half and didn't return to the game. He finished the night 7 for 15 passing for 73 yards and an interception.

Everett was led by quarterback Chase Herrick who completed 5 of 6 passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Seagulls receiver Ben Barhanovich caught one of those touchdown passes and also picked up a fourth quarter safety.

The Seagulls will wrap up its league schedule against undefeated Meadowdale on Friday while Shorecrest will travel to Glacier Peak for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the second-place Grizzlies.

The Scots will face a high-flying Glacier Peak offense managed by quarterback Zach Richter. The senior leads Wesco 3A in passing, averaging 8.4 yards per pass and 19 touchdowns.

The Scots will have one more shot to correct their mistakes before season's end.

“It's one more week to get it figured out or we're going to have endings like this,” Wollan said.
