Scouting report
Today is the one and only meeting of the season between Everett and Edmonton. The Oil Kings won 3-1 when the teams met last season in Everett. Everett is having to make a quick turnaround, playing an afternoon game today after playing in Red Deer the previous night. Edmonton did not play Saturday.
Edmonton (7-9-0-2), now in its third year of existence, was expected to be a breakout team this season. However, the Oil Kings are off to a sluggish start that currently sees them on the fringes of playoff position.
Edmonton’s biggest strength is in goal, where 20-year-old Torrie Jung (4-8-0-2, 3.25 goals against average, .902 save percentage) is one of the league’s standouts, though he’s fallen on difficult times lately. The Oil Kings also have one of the league’s top young defensemen in 17-year-old Mark Pysyk (two goals, five assists).
The Oil Kings have struggled scoring goals, averaging just 2.6 per game. Nineteen-year-olds Brent Raedeke (seven goals, 11 assists) and Tomas Vincour (10 goals, seven assists) have done their part, but there’s been little support.
