By Jackson Holtz Herald Writer ARLINGTON — Fire investigators plan to return today to the site of a two-alarm blaze that ripped through a Smokey Point strip mall early Monday. The fire destroyed a pawn shop and a restaurant and damaged a record store and a loan business, Arlington city spokeswoman Kristen Banfield said. It was too soon to tell what sparked the blaze, said Mike Makela, an investigator with the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's office. The fire triggered an alarm around 3:20 a.m. in the 3400 block of 172nd Street NE, Banfield said. When firefighters arrived flames already were bursting from the building, Arlington Fire Department spokeswoman Chris Badger said. Crews reported that the intense heat reportedly set off ammunition inside the pawn shop. The pop, pop, pop sounds could be heard above the noise of alarms and fire equipment. No injuries were reported. It took crews from Arlington, Marysville, Snohomish County Fire District 19 and North County Fire & EMS about an hour to put out the fire, limiting damage to the four businesses. Makela is working with Arlington police to try to determine what sparked the blaze. A dollar value estimate of the damage has not been released. Jackson Holtz: 425-339-3437, jholtz@heraldnet.com.
