The Silvertips (10-5-0-0) complete their six-game road trip through the Central Division tonight against the Hitmen (14-5-0-0) in the teams’ lone meeting of the season. Everett can finish 5-1 on the trip with a victory. Calgary won 4-0 when the teams met last season in Everett.
Calgary is once again proving to be the class of the Central Division. Last season the Hitmen won the Scotty Munro Trophy for the league’s best record, and despite heavy player losses Calgary has already built a commanding lead in the division again this season.
Leading the way for the Hitmen is 19-year-old right wing Brandon Kozun (10 goals, 24 assists), the league’s current scoring leader. Calgary also received a gift when 20-year-old center Joel Broda (eight goals, nine assists) was returned to the team rather than playing professionally in the minors in the Washington Capitals system.
Calgary employs perhaps the top goaltender in the league in 19-year-old Martin Jones (8-2-0-0, 2.69 goals against average, .904 save percentage). His best support players are 19-year-old defenseman Michael Stone (seven goals, eight assists) and 18-year-old defenseman Matt MacKenzie (one goal, 15 assists).
