A scheduling conflict means they can’t use the New Life Center’s large stage that has been made available to them for free the past four years. Instead, they will perform at the Everett Civic Auditorium, which requires a $2,000 fee for the two rehearsals and two shows. To help pay the cost, Mariner seniors in the dance program plan to host a showcase fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the school’s main gym, 200 120th St. SW, Everett. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Students will choreograph each performance. “They are definitely excited and extremely motivated,” said Anna Huber, the school’s dance teacher. ”They are a little bit nervous. It’s the first time they have done this without my help.” Mariner dance students learn a mix of jazz, modern, swing, tap, hip hop and break dancing as well as more classical forms, such as waltzes. Each spring, the dance students perform in Mariner’s spring gala to raise money for a cause. This year, it will be for the Rhyther Child Center in Seattle, a home for children at risk from neglect, mental illness or abuse Last year, students raised more than $2,700 for World Vision, an international relief organization. The year before, it was for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle. Huber said students are looking forward to performing at the Civic Auditorium in May. The fee is less than it could have been because it’s a charity event, but “it’s a large sum for us to come up with,” she said.
