Front porch: Expect some shorter postal hours this week

Short postal hours

All post offices will be open Thursday and New Year's Eve, but most will shorten retail lobby hours and close at noon. Mail delivery for Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 is not affected by the change.

Customers can call 800-ASK-USPS for information about specific offices. In addition, mail should be deposited into blue collection mailboxes before noon for early pickup on Thursday and Dec. 31.

Post offices will be closed Friday and Jan. 1. Express Mail only will be delivered on Christmas Day and New Year's Day in most large cities. Post offices will be open regular hours Saturday and Jan. 2.

Connect with L&I on Twitter and YouTube: The state Department of Labor & Industries launched a Twitter site. It also consolidated its YouTube videos into one listing.

Links to both L&I's Twitter and YouTube sites are available on the agency's Web site, www.lni.wa.gov.

Tour the new Arlington Municipal Airport offices from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at 18204 59th Drive NE in Arlington.

Started in June, construction of the $1.2 million remodel and expansion project wrapped up earlier this month. You can see the airport runways from the emergency operations platform on the second story.

About half the 8,800-square-foot building is leased to the state Department of Transportation's aviation division. Common areas include a reception area and a large community meeting room, where the Airport Commission will meet, as well as a pilots lounge open 24 hours a day.
