Allen “Al” Moser, an Everett Community College instructor who helped countless students land jobs and internships, has died of apparent natural causes at his Snohomish area home.
He was found dead Thursday morning.
“He was well loved by both his colleagues and his students,” said Sharon Buck, EvCC dean of business and work force education. “He was very vivacious and community-oriented.”
Moser was in his mid-60s. The 1961 Snohomish High School graduate was a computer information systems instructor at the college.
“Al was a dedicated teacher who was well known for the care and concern that he showed for his students,” EvCC President David Beyer wrote in an e-mail Thursday afternoon. “He worked closely with industry to ensure that his students had the skills they needed for jobs, and tirelessly promoted EvCC graduates, helping them get jobs and internships.”
Buck said Moser’s wide contacts included the Tulalip Tribes. He had the certification and expertise to train students to become technicians in the highly specialized gaming industry.
Moser got to know EvCC first as a student, then a staff employee and later as a member of the faculty.
He earned an associate degree from EvCC, then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from The Evergreen State College and a master’s degree in business administration from City University of Seattle.
He worked for IBM for 27 years before being hired in 1994 as a classified employee in computer services at EvCC. He began teaching computer classes part-time and discovered that he really liked to teach and work with students.
In fall 1998, he became a full-time instructor.
A replacement instructor will be hired to take over his winter quarter classes, which begin next week, college officials said.
Buck said she will visit Moser’s classes to talk with students next week.
Memorial services were pending Thursday.
