Say so long to pasties and thongs, Snohomish County. You’re not going to see them with your daily cup of coffee anymore.
A new county law goes into effect today, mandating that so-called “bikini baristas” cover up a little more. That basically means bikinis are OK; less isn’t.
Baristas might not be covering up this much. But it is January, so we think they should have one of these at work just in case. (stock.xchng photo)
This marks the end of a long county battle, with some community members protesting nearly-nude baristas in public. Others fired back: If you don’t like what you see, don’t look.
These new rules only apply to about half-a-dozen or more businesses outside city limits in the county. But supporters of the new regulations think it could push cities, including Everett, to adopt similar laws.

Some bikini-coffee-stand owners told Herald reporter Noah Haglund last month that the new rule doesn’t worry them too much.
“It’s not a problem,” said Bill Wheeler, the owner of the Grab-N-Go chain. “My girls look just as beautiful in a bikini as they would in pasties anyways.”
Still, he doesn’t plan to make most of his stands more G-rated: “Nobody wants to buy coffee from a clothing stand.”
