MUKILTEO — A Mukilteo teen suffered broken bones after being struck by a car this morning.
Mukilteo police and Snohomish County sheriff’s crash detectives are investigating what happened around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Beverly Park Road and the Mukilteo Speedway, Mukilteo police spokesman Cheol Kang said.
The boy, a 14-year-old Harbour Pointe Middle School student, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said. He was unconscious and unresponsive when paramedics arrived, Hynes said .
School officials didn’t know the boy’s condition early this afternoon, but said he appeared to be doing better than initial reports.
“He appears to have a broken leg and a broken arm,” said Andy Muntz, a Mukilteo School District spokesman.
Police are investigating if the boy tried to run across Beverly Park Road, Mukilteo police Cmdr. Chuck Macklin said. It appears the teen wasn’t in a crosswalk.
It’s not clear what the boy was trying to do or where he was trying to go. He was wearing a backpack, Hynes said.
The driver is cooperating in the investigation.
