EVERETT — Fire investigators on Sunday afternoon were trying to determine what caused a fire at a south Everett car dealership.
Firefighters were called to Pignataro Volkswagen in the 10600 block of Evergreen Way S. about 12:30 p.m., said Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Johnston. A worker at a nearby car dealership called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the back of the building.
The fire started in the shop area, which was closed. Crews quickly extinguished the flames, and nobody was hurt.
The fire activated a sprinkler, which helped keep the fire in check until firefighters arrived, Johnston said.
“It would have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for the sprinkler,” he said.
The flames and smoke charred some equipment and tools in the shop, but no cars appeared to be significantly damaged.
