PREP BOYS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Stanwood goalkeeper saves tie
SNOHOMISH — The Stanwood Spartans boys soccer team can thank goalkeeper Dalton Alumbaugh for keeping Tuesday night’s Wesco North game against Snohomish a 0-0 tie.
The senior goalie had multiple saves, and a few Snohomish shots hit off the cross bar with Panthers (3-0-1) interim head coach Matt Raney saying “He (Alumbaugh) saved the game for Stanwood.”
Snohomish had eight shots on goal with “no shortage of chances,” Raney said, compared to Stanwood’s (2-1-1) two shots on the net. Snohomish goalie Cody Melander got the shutout for the Panthers.
“I have faith in these boys that they will turn this stumbling block into a positive,” Raney said of his Snohomish squad.
Monroe 4, Arlington 1: At Arlington, Jack Fortune (assist Mitchell Balk), Andrew Barrett (Fortune), Jose Garibay (Jorge Avila) and Balk (Cesar Jimenez) scored goals for Monroe (1-1 league and overall) in the Wesco North game. Mitchell Irvin notched Arlington’s goal. Jose Perez Jr. was in goal for Monroe. Cory Ferris was in goal for Arlington (2-2).
Everett 2, Cascade 0: At Everett, Christian Sanchez (Dave Gebert assist) and Sam Nelson (Jonathan Martinez assist) scored first-half goals for Everett in a Wesco North win. Tanner Jalinek earned the shutout for Everett (2-1 league, 2-1 overall). The goalkeeper for Cascade (1-3, 1-3) was not reported.
Marysville-Pilchuck 9, Oak Harbor 0: At Marysville, Brady Ballew scored four goals, three unassisted, and John Crenshaw added two goals in his first game back from injury in a Wesco North match. Anthony Johnson scored a goal and assisted on two others and his brother Terence Johnson added a goal of his own. Crenshaw had one assist. Anivol Moreno (Angel Cardenas assist) scored the final goal for M-P (2-1-0 overall). Kyle Bluhm and Anurag Cheema combined for the shutout in goal. Oak Harbor’s (0-4) goalkeeper was not reported.
Edmonds-Woodway 1, Mariner 0: At Edmonds, Jeremy Wentzel (Danny Dubois assist) scored in the 30th minute for Edmonds-Woodway in a non-league match. Erik Whitney earned the shutout for E-W (1-1-1 overall). Martin Banuelos was in goal for Mariner (1-2-0).
Shorecrest 5, Lynnwood 0: At Shoreline, Shorecrest received goals from five players in a non-league win. Ian Adams (Glenn Paden assist), Joe Schober (penalty kick), Paden (Hiei Rose assist), Brennan Millea (Adams assist) and Rose (Schober assist) all scored for the Scots (3-0 overall). Eric Baker earned the shutout in goal. Emiliano Suarez was in goal for Lynnwood (1-2).
Meadowdale 1, Shorewood 0: At Lynnwood, Sam Werner (Spencer Walior assist) provided the difference for Meadowdale in a non-league match. Ken Hill earned the shutout in goal for Meadowdale (1-2 overall) and Max Wright was in goal for Shorewood (1-1-1).
Kamiak 4, Mountlake Terrace 1: At Mukilteo, Zach Faller (Kyle Watts and Tyler Hawkinson assists) scored twice for Kamiak in its Wesco South win. Bryton Reim (unassisted) and Spencer Kienholz (Hawkinson) also had goals for Kamiak. Mesfen Gebremeskel scored for Mountlake Terrace. Ben Winter was in goal for Terrace (0-3 overall) and Felyx Tsoi was in goal for Kamiak (1-0-2).
Glacier Peak 3, Jackson 0: At Everett, Glacier Peak got off to a fast start, scoring two goals six minutes apart and a late capper in the 67th minute for the non-league win. Jackson Miller scored in the 11th minute (Gregor Troost assist) and younger brother Shane Miller scored in the 17th minute (Jackson Miller assist) for a 2-0 Glacier Peak (3-0 overall) lead at half. David Linney added another Grizzlies goal in the 67th minute (Brian Holguin assist). Andrew Weakly and Olivier Goudreau split time in goal for the shutout win. Archbishop Murphy 8, Granite Falls 0: At Everett, Archbishop Murphy (1-0 league, 1-0 overall) scored three goals in the first half and Doug Ehlebracht earned the shutout in goal in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams. Erik McCaughan scored in the 13th minute (Riley Raynor assist), Kieran Ryan scored in the 33rd minute (Matt Friar), Erik Schmidt scored in the 36th minute (McCaughan assist), Friar scored in the 52nd minute (Alexis Magana assist), Magana scored unassisted in the 68th minute, Sean Ryan (Quin Nelson assist) scored in the 77th minute, Aiden Huggins scored in the 78th minute (Ryan assist) and Alex Kramer scored unassisted in 79th minute. Adrian Galle was in goal for Granite Falls (0-1, 1-2).
South Whidbey 3, Lakewood 2 (OT): At Langley, Ian McCauley scored on a header in overtime to lead South Whidbey to a Cascade Conference win. McCauley, who assisted on South Whidbey’s (1-0 league, 1-1 overall) other two goals, found the net off a Henry Mead throw in. Pat Myatt scored twice for South Whidbey. Lakewood’s (0-1, 0-3) Josue Rivera scored on a free kick in the 34th minute and Jordan Vandlac (Joseph Hawkins assist) scored in the 67th minute. TJ Russell and Karl Peterson split time in goal for South Whidbey. Lakewood’s goalkeeper was Sam Johnston, who had seven saves.
Sultan 1, Cedarcrest 0: At Duvall, Tim Abt scored a quick goal, two minutes into the Cascade Conference game. Sultan (1-0 league, 1-2 overall) goalkeeper Clayton Knoles recorded the shutout while defenders David Shirley and Anthony Reyes helped keep Cedarcrest (0-1, 0-3) off the board. Justin Swift and Alex Nicholas assisted on Abt’s goal. Colin McHargue was in goal for Cedarcrest.
King’s 3, Coupeville 2: At Coupeville, King’s took a 3-0 lead, and held on down the stretch for the Cascade Conference win. Sam Hauck scored the first goal of the game on a free kick from about 20 yards out in the 25th minute for King’s (1-0 league, 1-0 overall). King’s scored again in the 55th minute on Jacob Hauser’s goal for a 2-0 lead. At the 60 minute mark, Evan Sabo scored for King’s for a 3-0 lead. Coupeville (0-1, 0-2) scored in the 72nd minute by Ben Hayes unassisted. In the 78th minute, Spencer Tack scored for Coupeville.
