Programs for aerospace workers at Paine Field and nurses at Everett Community College are getting a boost in the state budget approved by lawmakers Monday night.
The Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center at Paine Field will be getting $1.75 million.
Those dollars will be funneled through the state Board for Community and Technical Colleges to Edmonds Community College which is developing the curriculum for classes that could begin in June.
Snohomish County and the Aerospace Futures Alliance joined forces last summer to create the center and the community college will oversee its operation.
As reported by Herald Writer Michelle Dunlop, local aerospace companies in need of specific training can pay the center to provide it to their workers. And people looking to get into the aerospace field can enroll in courses there as well.
Lawmakers also included $158,000 to start a bachelor of science in nursing program at the University Center at Everett Community College. It will be offered in partnership with the University of Washington-Bothell.
This funding will allow for the program to start this summer and be available for up to 25 full-time students
