MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Detectives are working to unravel a tangled web of violence that appears to have started in Mountlake Terrace on May 13 and ended with the arrest of an Everett man in Whatcom County the next day.
The man, 44, went to an apartment where a Ferndale woman, 22, was staying, Mountlake Terrace police Cmdr. Doug Hansen said. The pair knew each other.
The man reportedly was upset at the woman because he believed she owed him money, Hansen said. The man allegedly became enraged, stripped the woman of her clothes and beat her with his fists and a lead-filled leather bag.
The woman told detectives he held a knife to her throat and threatened to scalp her, Hansen said.
To end the assault, the woman told the man that she had some of his property, including a firearm, at her parent’s home in Ferndale. The attacker left and the woman fled to an Everett apartment, but the man tracked her down, police said.
He abducted her and took her to the Ferndale house and the violence continued, Hansen said. Ferndale police arrested the man and he was booked into the Whatcom County Jail and transferred Thursday to the Snohomish County Jail.
He was booked for investigation of first-degree domestic violence assault and first-degree domestic violence kidnapping.
The woman was treated at a hospital.
