Detectives announced today that they have arrested two people in connection with a string of John Deere lawn mower thefts.
The Snohomish County Auto Theft Task Force received a tip three months ago that expensive John Deere lawn mowers were being stolen from Lowe’s stores in Arlington, Lynnwood and Mount Vernon. The mowers are valued between $1,700 and $2,700.
Detectives searched Craigslist and discovered someone advertising the sale of a new riding lawn mower.
Working with the South King County Auto Theft Task Force and Renton police, detectives set up a meeting with the seller. Detectives discovered that the lawn mower that was being sold had been stolen from a Lowe’s store.
A man, 39, and a woman, 34, are suspected of stealing lawn mowers and selling them on Craigslist. Detectives searched the suspects’ home in Federal Way and found three more John Deere lawn mowers. Investigators verified that one of the mowers had been stolen.
The task force continues to investigate the case. Investigators are asking anyone who recently bought a new John Deere riding lawn mower from a private party to call detective Paul Ryan at 425-388-6058. The suspects likely would have been driving a red 2006 Dodge pickup truck.
