Merchants win

EVERETT— The Everett Merchants came from behind to beat the West Olympia Linxs on Tuesday night, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to grab a 4-3 win.

Edmonds Community College pitcher Bobby LeCount picked up the win for the Merchants after pitching the ninth inning. The Merchants improved to 27-7 after the win over West Olympia, which dropped to 10-11. West Olympia plays in the Puget Sound Collegiate League, so Tuesday night was a non-league game for both teams.

Everett’s rally began with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning when Andy Lyon (Edmonds CC) hit an infield single. Braden Degamo (Edmonds CC) followed with a bloop single to left field and then Jace Sloan (Everett CC) walked to load the bases.

With the bases loaded and one out, Logan Brumley was hit by a pitch which scored Lyon from third and kept the bases loaded. Everett tied the game when Travis Rush’s squeeze bunt was mishandled by the third baseman, allowing Degamo to score. The next batter, Ian Parmley (Bellevue CC) finished off the comeback with a single off the shortstop’s glove that scored Sloan.

“They played very well and led us 3-1 going into the ninth,” bench coach Seth Dawson said. “We were certainly very fortunate to come back and win.”

The Merchants play the Nisqually Silvers in another non-league game tonight at 7 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.
