MUKILTEO — A 73-year-old woman died Thursday morning when she was struck by a commercial flatbed truck while crossing an intersection at Harbour Pointe Boulevard SW and Blue Heron Boulevard in Mukilteo, officials said.
The Mukilteo resident, whose name was not released Thursday, was taking a walk with a friend around 7:45 a.m. when she was hit in a crosswalk by the 12-wheel truck, said Officer Cheol Kang of the Mukilteo Police Department.
The driver, a 32-year-old Mukilteo man, cooperated with officers investigating the cause of the accident, Kang said.
“She and a friend were trying to cross,” Kang said of the pedestrian. “Her friend was able to cross. The victim was still in the crosswalk when the driver attempted to make the turn.”
The woman died at the scene. Neither the driver nor the woman’s friend were hurt.
A stretch of Harbour Pointe Boulevard SW was closed to traffic for several hours Thursday morning.
Cars, trucks and walkers out for exercise took detours between Harbour Reach Drive to Possession Way as investigators took measurements and examined the accident scene.
Blue Heron Boulevard leads to a new housing development and some industrial buildings.
Traffic accident investigators from the Lynnwood Police Department are assisting in the investigation.
Kang said he did not know if the driver would be issued a traffic citation.
“They have not made a determination,” he said. Eric Stevick: 425-339-3446, stevick@heraldnet.com.
