LYNNWOOD — A 23-year-old woman was listed in critical condition after being shot in the back early Tuesday morning in what appears to be a shootout in an apartment complex parking lot south of Everett.
“We still don’t have a suspect,” said Lt. John Flood of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives found roughly two dozen shell casings at the scene.
Flood said it appears that more than one weapon was involved in the shooting that occurred sometime between midnight and 1 a.m.
He said he could not confirm news reports that the shooting victim was pregnant.
The woman, who lives in the apartment complex off 2600 Lincoln Way east of Highway 99, was shot in the back. She was either in a car or in the parking lot when she was hit, Flood said.
“We are not sure we have any other victims which is certainly concerning,” Flood said. “There are so many unknowns.”
Two women, including the injured woman, were found in the apartment complex parking lot.
Other residents said they were awakened by gunfire.
“I thought I was dreaming,” said Rafael Lucas, who has lived in the Twin Firs apartments for more than two years.
“I thought it was firecrackers,” said Rechelle Jones, who also lives in the apartment complex.
Antonio Ramirez said he was surprised to learn that there had been violence in the complex where he has lived for the past seven months.
“We have nice neighbors,” he said. “It’s quiet here most of the time.”
Christopher Portner walked by from a nearby apartment complex and studied the markers dotting the parking lot where detectives found shell casings.
“That’s some kind of anger there,” he said.
Flood said detectives are interested in learning more about an SUV that left the parking lot around the time of the shooting.
“We want to rule it out or rule it in,” he said.
