EVERETT — A southbound train crashed into a tractor-trailer rig that was crossing railroad tracks near Everett’s waterfront Thursday morning.
The 9:40 a.m. collision caused no serious injuries, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. The truck driver was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
In the late afternoon, towing crews continued work to remove the crumpled, metal truck trailer from the scene. Wood chips spilled from holes punctured in the trailer during the crash.
The accident occurred at an entrance to the Kimberly-Clark plant. The east gate to the plant has a crossing guard-arm to keep vehicles from crossing as trains approach, though it wasn’t clear whether it was up or down at the time of the accident. Afterward, the access gate’s arms were upright and apparently undamaged.
Some diesel spilled from the truck’s fuel tank, but there were no concerns about hazardous cargo, Goetz said. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train had only four cars.
The crash was not on the main rail lines and did not disrupt service, BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
