How well do you know the state symbols?

Light up the candles, 121 of them, to celebrate Washington state's birthday on Nov. 11.

OK, maybe 121 years isn't exactly a significant milestone, but we thought it was a good reason to dig up some facts and figures on our state's representatives.

No, not those guys in Olympia. We're talking about the goldfinch, the dragonfly and Woody Guthrie.

Did you know that many of Washington's symbols and emblems are the result of schoolkids who kicked off campaigns and petitioned the Legislature to select the emblems and symbols?
