EVERETT — Everett is buying another piece of land for a neighborhood park.
The property is a wooded, nearly 2-acre parcel at 528 Madison St. in the Evergreen neighborhood.
Just when the city might start developing the property isn’t firm yet, city spokeswoman Kate Reardon said. The id
ea is that it might include trails and playground equipment.
The land comes with a house, and the city is considering how to best use it.
“It’s possible we may be able rehab and rent the house as a revenue source prior to park development,” she said.
The sale price is $340,000. The assessed value of the house and land is $764,800.
The city and the county agreed to use half a million dollars in Snohomish County Conservation Futures funds from the Cascade Land Conservancy to pay for the purchase — not Everett tax dollars.
The property belonged to Janice Deckmann, who inherited it from her mother.
“Thank you, Nick Harper,” Deckmann said Monday, referring to the Conservation Director and state senator. “I don’t think this park would have come about without the Cascade Land Conservancy.”
Creating more parks in south Everett is a stated goal of the city.
City officials are holding three parcels of land that are slated to be developed into parks in south Everett in coming years, including a half-mile-long strip of forested land south of the Everett Mall that would become an urban oasis.
